On Wednesday, October 4, 1972, 26-year-old rookie Vic Correll made his major league debut as the Red Sox starting catcher in a season-ending game against the Tigers in Detroit. While he would go on to play several seasons in Atlanta and Cincinnati, Correll made only that one appearance in a Boston uniform.
