26-year-old righthander George Washburn was the Yankees starting pitcher on Sunday, May 4, 1941 as New York played the Tigers at Briggs Stadium in Detroit. Washburn lasted two batters into the third inning and allowed four runs on two hits and five walks in what was to be his only major league appearance.
