22-year-old rookie righthander John Pyecha was the fourth and final pitcher used by Stan Hack's Chicago Cubs against the Reds on Saturday, April 24, 1954, entering the game with his team down 3-2 in the seventh inning. Pyecha held Cincinnati scoreless for two innings and saw the Cubs rally to a 5-3 eighth inning lead. However, he surrendered a three-run homer to Wally Post with two down in the home ninth to lose, 6-5. It was John Pyecha's only appearance in the majors.
