On Saturday afternoon, April 27, 1935 against the Boston Braves at Ebbets Field, Brooklyn manager Casey Stengel inserted 26-year-old rookie Manuel "Curly" Onis into the Dodgers line-up replacing starting catcher Babe Phelps. Onis came to bat with two out in the bottom of the ninth and singled to left in what would be his only major league time at bat.
